Today is October 31st, the last day of the 100-mile running/walking challenge. How did you do? I cut it pretty close, just skating over the 100 mile mark yesterday morning.
The reason I started this challenge in the first place was to raise awareness about activity levels, and encourage people to run or walk a little more. From the reports I’ve been seeing on Facebook, that mission was definitely accomplished! Even those who didn’t make it to 100 miles this month still covered more ground than if they hadn’t been thinking about it. Personally, having that target number in the back of my mind all month got me up and moving a lot more than usual. So I’m declaring this challenge a success!
And since so many of you enjoyed it, we’re going to do it all over again for November. But this time, you can tailor it to your own personal goals. Here are your options:
- 100 miles on foot (running, walking, or elliptical)
- 10% more than you did last month.
This way, if 100 miles is too much of a stretch, you can still aim to increase your activity over last month – a big win. But if you reached the 100 miles without any trouble, use option #2 to push yourself even farther! Whichever you choose, remember that every little bit of activity counts, and not just for the physical benefits – moving your body releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel better about yourself. And reaching a goal that you’ve set for yourself builds confidence, as well as evidence that you’re a person that follows through on her commitments.
To help you track your progress, HERE is a printable chart.

I had knee surgery over the summer, so I missed 3 months of running. I’ll admit the depression was pretty bad. BUT…..this month I was able to start back again and have worked up to a 5+ mile run! Yay! Soooo happy to be out there!
Nicole says
I completed 62 miles as of this morning. I didn’t learn of the challenge is until the 3rd and did not start until the 7th. I almost doubled my weekly milage last week to get as far as I did. Bit I wisely backed off this week because 10 miles a day was more than I can handle and I want to be able to keep training for a half that I plan to run in February. I enjoyed the challenge and I learned some new things about myself and that’s always a good thing.

So, question: does the 100 miles include normal activity (i.e. walking around the house, walking the dog)? Or is it 100 miles more than normal activity? I ask because I wear a fitness tracker and I average 4-5 miles/day. Which is more than the 3.3 miles/day needed to complete this challenge. Am I thinking about this too much?
Kat says
Nevermind…just read the post from the last challenge. Calculated out my averages the last few months and am challenging myself to slowly get back to my summer mileage. November challenge is 190miles for me!
